Owen is the first and only Sport & Performance Psychologist with a background in technology and medicine areas as a private practitioner in Asia. He was trained as a soccer athlete; however, due to a serious ACL injury, he transitioned to training in calisthenics and other ball-related sports.
Owen is a self-funding graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and a master’s degree in Performance Psychology from Bangor University. Also, he is a graduate student in master degree of Medicine areas from University of Bern.
With over 5 years of full-time working experience in children and youth work, as well as over 1.5 years of full-time working experience in sport managerial roles, Owen also has 2 accumulated years of working experience in marketing, administration, and charity work to support his tuition fees and lifestyle.
During his college studies, Owen volunteered for over 3 years in mental health, disabled persons, elderly care, and children and youth services in locations including Hong Kong and India. His volunteering work in India was featured and published in an Indian newspaper as a foreign volunteer.
Additionally, Owen has studied over 10 professional certificates, including soccer coaching licenses, personality dimensions, philosophical counseling, laughter yoga, adventure-based counseling, stretching instruction, sport psychology, orienteering, mountaineering, among others, enriching his cross-disciplinary knowledge in various services. Besides, he run his own YouTube channel called hingstudio, produced some camping, fitness content.
As a tech enthusiast, Owen is the first and only private practitioner in sport psychology services to provide neurofeedback devices, virtual reality, and other technologies to visually demonstrate the effects of sport psychology. He also independently created, developed, and self-funded the leading fitness application called Heroletics, which offers physical and mental training and education for sports enthusiasts. Heroletics features over 400 exercises, all filmed and performed by Owen, and has attracted almost 2,000 active members worldwide by 2024.
While working as a full-time Senior Program Manager at the Asian Academy of Sport & Fitness Professionals, Owen became the first to establish a partnership with WSWCF, the world’s largest street workout association. He independently built a backend system called Virtual Field System (VCF), providing effective internal development and external promotion.
In 2024, Owen established the first Sport & Performance Lab in Hong Kong, named The Mind Engineering. He organized the Sport Science and Psychology Team (SSPT) to provide the first coaching psychology certificate in Hong Kong.
Only half year even with a full time job, Owen has provided sport psychology services in various sports including shuttlecock, basketball, orienteering, korfball, diving, kyudo, kendo, bodybuilding, calisthenics, curling, bouldering, among others, catering to non-elite, elite athletes, and sports enthusiasts of all ages, from children and parents to seniors. Also, he is the first one to provide sport psychology workshops with high tech equipment in Hong Kong {Psychology of Injury workshop for orienteering coaches}.
